The Tenant of Snozcumber Hut

A Lost Bronte Novel
by bob

Boris Rockatansky is a considerate and understanding orphan raised by a brutal and stupid nun. Eventually he gets a job working as a gardener for the virtuous Lady Snozcumber of Snozcumber Hut. The unlikely couple rapidly succumb to a hot passion.

On the day of their wedding, a hungry monk escapes from the attic of Snozcumber Hut and starts a fire. Believing that Lady Snozcumber is dead, Boris flees from the church and wanders the chilly moors for days until he is rescued by a sweet cleaner.

However, although Lady Snozcumber is blinded by the fire, she still breathes. Without Boris she becomes controlling and wild. She turns to alcohol for comfort. The ghost of the monk from the attic haunts her.

Meanwhile, thinking Lady Snozcumber is dead, Boris accepts a marriage proposal from his saviour, the cleaner. However, one night he believes he can hear Lady Snozcumber calling, "Boris, where are you? Boris come home!" and he returns to Snozcumber Hut.

On Boris's return, he finds Lady Snozcumber drunk and without sight. Mistaking him for the ghost of the hungry monk, she attacks him with a razor and Boris Rockatansky dies.

As she attends to the body, Lady Snozcumber realises what she has done. Driven mad with guilt, she hatches a plan to destroy the next generation, but there is no next generation and she dies of consumption two weeks later.

Created on 19th May 2017.
